FLORA
The Los Rios Community is surrounded by an extensive primary forest where a large variety of trees,
orchids, heliconias, bromeliads and medicinal plants grows. The medicinal plants are in large demand at the national level; we can mention for instance:
dragon's blood (stops bleeding and heals wounds), curarina (for snake bites),
yuquilla (for diabetes), amiruca (for arthritis), uluco or
cancerina (for cancer), and so forth.
|
FAUNA
Entering the jungle one can observe a great variety of animals (birds, monkeys, peccaries, fish, and butterflies) in their own habitat.
However, due to excessive hunting many animals have left for safer grounds and this is the reason why members of the Community have started a fauna protection campaign.

TOURISM
The natural Amazon environment offers a wide diversity of flora and fauna, impressive rain forests and generous water resources. This area is ideal for Tourism aimed at nature interpretation.
The ACOPROCOR Organization is setting in motion this project which main objective is to
generate alternate sources of income to avoid the excessive development of the forest industry and to improve the relation between Man and
Nature.
|
We wish to make of our Community an inspiring model of collective self-management and respectful attitude toward Nature. The simplicity, cordiality, honesty and sincerity of our people make this Community a pleasant place to visit.
Touring the Ecological Village, we can identify giant trees over a hundred years old, such as the
"Tree strangler vine", "ceibo", "raiz viril", medicinal plants, palm trees such as the
"tagua Palm", "morete", "chonta Palm", etc. In this natural forest live thousands of birds, monkeys, butterflies, ants, anteaters etc.
